A French butter dish is a container used to maintain the freshness and spreadable consistency of butter without refrigeration. This late 19th-century French-designed pottery crock has two parts: a base that holds water, and a cup to hold the packed butter which also serves as a lid.
This one-of-a-kind ceramic French butter keeper is handmade from speckled clay and has a shiny white glaze. It holds approximately half a cup of butter on the counter at room temperature ready to spread. Just add water to the base to create a seal with the lid and you're good to go! Approximately 4.25 inches wide at its widest and 2.5 inches tall
